SYNOPSIS: Chase Walker used to be a good kid-charming, athletic, and with a bright future ahead, but that was before travesty struck his life, sinking him into deep despair. Caught up in a world of drugs and alcohol, he doesn’t notice time slipping away until he’s arrested for underage drinking one night. Fed up with watching her son destroy his life, Chase’s mom relocates him to live in a small ranching community with his ex-military grandfather. Chase is far from happy about the situation until he meets, Nikki, the cute cheerleader who won’t give football players like him the time of day. Chase enjoys a good challenge though and sets out to claim Nikki for his own. He soon discovers she’s more than a pretty face-she’s a balm to his troubled spirit also. But when tragedy strikes Nikki’s life too, suddenly Chase finds himself put to the ultimate test. Can he trust Nikki, and all that she’s taught him? Will it be enough?
I read Lacey Weatherford’s Crush series, so I was so excited and pumped to grab this novel and read it. And let me tell you…I wasn’t disappointed with the results of this book. It.was.amazing!
Chasing Nikki portrays the themes of drugs, youth, identity, guilt, love, beauty, hate, and self-discipline. It discusses so many things teenagers can relate to. All these themes are bundled up in one package giving readers an emotional ride all throughout the book! And I couldn’t get enough of it! Even though I felt pain and sorrow, I still wanted to experience every feeling the characters were going through…
Chase Walker lost his father on his birthday almost a year ago. Since then he has lost the motivation to play football, started drugs, and has pretty much let his future go down the drain. When he gets arrested, his mom decides they should move to another town and live with her parents…
When Chase and his mom move, Chase meets goody two shoes, Nikki Wagner. Nikki has been down that rode with dating bad boys like Chase Walker, so she wants nothing to do with him. But that doesn’t stop Chase from going after her. Now Chase must do everything he can to win her heart…but will he regret it?
All the characters seem realistic and different from one another. Chase and Nikki are my favorite characters. Nikki was so sweet and headstrong; and Chase..oh, Chase! I love this guy! He is a troubled teen who doesn’t know how to express his feelings and pain.
Chasing Nikki took place in Silver Creek, Arizona. It is held in Chase’s point of view and divided into two parts.
Weatherford expressed Chase feelings perfectly. This whole book was an emotional rollercoaster. Some parts brought me to tears. You could go from being happy to sad and vice versa within just a few paragraphs. You never knew what to expect because surprises could happen so suddenly; just like in real life.
The flirting between Nikki and Chase was also cute. Chase’s sense of humor was hilarious and you could tell he used to be a decent guy before his dad died.
And what is surprising is that Chase is actually a real person. His name is Chase Walden…
Now, Walden doesn’t have the same problems as Walker, but he does know a few things about farming just like Walker. His picture is on the front cover of the book as well. You can read all about Weatherford’s journey with developing the character Chase Walker with the help from Chase Walen right here. 🙂 You can also view a video interview with both of them.
The one thing I didn’t like was that I saw a few similarities from the Crush series. Other than that, this book was great! It makes you think about life and how you live it and I am so happy I found this book.
It makes you want to appreciate life more….
Cherish everyday life of individuals and live life to the fullest.
